Volunteers Needed For Willen Hospice Warehouse
The Volunteer Centre, Milton Keynes has been supporting not for profit groups in Milton Keynes since 1976. We provide an essential service to these organisations in the recruitment of volunteers. This week we are focusing on one particular organisation - Willen Hospice. Willen Hospice boasts an idyllic location with beautiful gardens overlooking Willen Lake and Willen Church. With its tranquil setting it is hard to believe that it is only a few miles east from the hectic commercial and retail centre of Milton Keynes. Willen Hospice offers specialist physical, emotional and practical support to people with life limiting conditions and their families. The range of services has developed over the years to provide options on where and how a patient would like to be cared for. These services are carried out by a team of professional staff and supported by hundreds of dedicated volunteers. The Hospice receives only a quarter of its funding from the NHS and has to raise over £2.7 million to provide its care. One of the ways the Hospice raises funds is through its network of 9 shops. These shops sell, among other things, clothes, fashion accessories, books and collectables. The majority of the sorting and pricing of these donated items is done at the Hospice's warehouse in Kiln Farm. The warehouse is in desperate need for volunteers to help with the pricing and sorting of clothes and collectables. Potential volunteers need to be 16 and over, physically able to lift and carry and be able to commit to a minimum of 3 months to be able to support the Hospice in this role. If you are interested in supporting the Hospice by volunteering for this very active and sociable role there are 3 information sessions being held at the warehouse - 1 Burners Lane, Kiln Farm, Milton Keynes, MK11 3HA where the Warehouse Managers Linda and Christine along with William Whitechurch their Retail Manager will be there to meet, greet and tell potential volunteers about all the wonders of Willen. The information sessions are being held on: Tuesday 18th November 2008 - 10am - midday Wednesday 19th November 2008 - Midday - 3pm Thursday 20th November 2008 - 1pm - 4pm If you are unable to attend any of the above sessions but would like to register your details please contact the Volunteer Centre, Milton Keynes on 01908 662744.
