Milton Keynes 12 Windsor 0
Saturday's match was a really strange game of territorial field positions with both halfs following the same pattern. The first half was dominated by Milton Keynes, pinning Windsor in their own twenty two for almost the full 40 minutes with the exception of one small break away by the Windsor which was quickly stifled with a try saving tackle from Dave Matthews. In this game all of the points were scored in the first 30 minutes at which stage it appeared to be a question of how many MK would win by, but high praise must go to the Windsor’s defence who put in an excellent and disciplined performance. On twenty minutes, MK kicked to the 5 metre line after Windsor conceded a penalty for going over the top in the ruck. Rather than taking 3 points MK were looking for more after complete domination. From the line out and the ball won the MK pack locked out. Once Danny Pearson (Scum Half) was happy with the position he asked the pack to make their move and with great control, strength and composure the MK pack headed for the line with Hooker Rob Conway grabbing the touchdown. The conversion was missed by Milton Keynes but they now had the lead 5 – 0. The second try came on the half hour when both forwards and backs interchanged with some very nice passing, finally allowing Simon Kockelbergh to dive over. It must be acknowledged that this was after several scrums in which the MK forwards wore the Windsor pack down. Outside Half Phil Powell made up for his first conversion miss and added the points, making it 12 - 0. In the Second half Windsor came out with all guns blazing but MK’s defence was superb and this became the main feature of the half. At one stage Windsor looked certain to score but somehow the MK defence held fast. With 20 minutes left on the clock winger Dan Walker was yellow carded for a dubious spear tackle but rather than fold, MK defence dug in even deeper and snuffled out everything Windsor threw at them. At one stage the home side even paid a little visit to Windsor’s line but unfortunately failed to take advantage.Final score Milton Keynes 12 – Windsor 0. Milton Keynes Chairman Mr John Theobald braved the elements and filmed the whole game from the roof of the club house to give both sets of players a glimpse of what they would look like on the big screen. He is also in action again this Saturday, entertaining the players in a musical evening with the band “Two Dave’s One Mike” and covers from the 60’s up to present day.
