Blenheim Palace was built for John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, in recognition of his great victory over the French at the Battle of Blenheim in 1704. The Palace, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh, is one of the finest examples of English Baroque and contains a superb collection of tapestries, paintings, sculptures and fine furniture set in magnificent gilded State rooms. The Long Library is of outstanding beauty


The Churchill Exhibition

An exhibition of Churchilliana, which includes manuscripts, paintings, personal belongings, books, photographs and letters. The core of the exhibition is the simple room where Churchill was born on 30th November 1874.

The Garden and Park

The gardens are renowned for their beauty and range from the formal Water Terraces, Italian Garden and Rose Garden to the natural charm of the Arboretum and Cascade. Blenheim Lake, created by Capability Brown and spanned by Vanbrugh's Grand Bridge is the focal point of over 2000 acres of landscaped parkland

The Pleasure Gardens and Railway

This area includes the Herb and Lavender Garden and the Butterfly House. Within the walls of the old kitchen garden, visitors will also find the Marlborough Maze, the worlds largest symbolic hedge maze, together with putting greens and a large adventure play area

Shops and Restaurants

The Old Palace Dairy with its 18th Century butter cooler is the attractive setting for Blenheim's main gift shop

The Country Kitchen boasts food, preserves, pickles and drinks to suit all tastes. There is also a book shop in the Palace Courtyard

The Italian Room Restaurant serves full luncheons and afternoon teas, the Water Terrace Buffet offers a wide selection of hot and cold foods

The Palace and Gardens are open daily from 10.30a.m. to 5.30p.m from mid March to end of October
The park is open daily throughout the year 9a.m. to 4.45p.m.
